About the board..... There is nothing new about
the concept of fuller template boards. If you
go back to ten years or more you'll find plenty
of short boards that were around 20" wide.
Similarities of todays retro rockets with their
early relatives start and finish the dimensions
however.
Retro Rockets being wide boards are relatively
easy to paddle and better still they are quick
to plane . This means the board will perform
to it's full potential, even at low speeds (
a major advantage in small and weak surf).
Retro's also have lots of outline curve, this
has the effect of making the retro rocket very
loose , which means you can create a lot of
your own speed with simple rail to rail turns.
Loose boards however tend to lack control, particularly
when the surf gets bigger and more critical.
To compensate for this we have tightened the
tail block of the rocket and added a swallow
tail for extra bite. We've also added a fairly
exaggerated concave bottom shape. These two
features act like tyres on a car, giving you
tighter and more controlled handling.
Most Suitable For...... Retro Rockets would
be a good purchase for anyone who wants to enhance
their performance in smaller and weaker surf
( although depending on the conditions the retro
rocket will happily function in overhead surf)
On the whole, the board would best suit those
of you who already short board but the bigger
boards in the range wouldn't make a bad first
shortboard either. In forms of weight and ability
the lighter and more experienced surfers ride
the smaller boards which is a general rule with
all types of surfboards.
